Happy Endings. . .

Dear Saint Francis Animal Center of Georgetown Staff,

About a month ago, my husband David and I adopted a golden/Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Andrew (Charley). He responded to Charley so that is his name. At the time Charley was afraid of men and you were concerned that he wasn't a good fit for our family. But my husband David, just fell in love with the dog, and our Chihuahua (Captain Danger) and I liked him, so we were allowed to adopt Charley. From the moment he eagerly jumped into our car he became part of our family!

Charley is very loved and VERY HAPPY. He has bonded with me but is also very affectionate with my husband. He is so affectionate and he is very funny. If I laugh at something he does, he gets even sillier. And he is a big cuddle baby. He loves to be hugged and leans and lays all over us. He loves to have his belly rubbed.

Charley has been the sweetest dog since day one. He has not had a single accident with his housetraining. He is so gentle when eating with our Captain Danger that he has actually picked up food and dropped it at Captain's feet trying to feed him! I've never seen a dog do this. He is patient and always waits "his turn" at everything. He is very good with our cat and lays down very submissive (but curious and playful) whenever she is around. She is not afraid of him at all and usually goes outdoors with him to watch him run around the yard. They touch noses all the time.

Charley has gone from being terrified of my husband to coming over to him for kisses and instigating play. He sleeps in our bed, rides in the car, goes to the beach, plays fetch with tennis balls, swims in the lake, and runs around in our yard all day and half the night. He has always stayed in the yard, (we have 15 acres) but we installed an electric underground dog fence to enclose an acre of our yard just to make sure he stays safe from cars. He is very easy to train.

We could not be happier with Charley and want to thank you for giving us and Charley the CHANCE to become a family. We are so thankful that you gave us a chance to get to know Charley and give Charley a chance at a happy life with a family who loves him. You allowed us to adopt him even though he was so scared of my husband. We both love Charley so much and he loves us right back and Captain Danger is happiest of all I think, to have a playmate to wrestle with non-stop. We couldn't ask for a better dog.

I know that Charley has been in and out of your shelter his entire life. We wanted you to know that he has found a happy home for the rest of his life. Thank you for taking such good care of him.

Thank you.
Gloria Williams
