Becoming a Saint Frances Volunteer:
Volunteers are a vital part of Saint
Frances Animal Center. Volunteer
assignments range from comforting and
caring for the animals as dog handlers
and cat care volunteers, to fund raising
and clerical help. For those who think
working directly with the animals may be
too emotionally demanding, we have
several areas where volunteers may work
away from the shelter (or even at home)
by helping with Off-Site Adoptions,
special events, bulk mailings, and
post-adoption follow-up calls.
Volunteers should enjoy working with all
types of people and must show a genuine
concern for the welfare of animals. A
willingness to work hard, get dirty, and
pitch in wherever needed is required.
The ideal volunteer is self-motivated,
mature, sensitive, dependable, and a
team player. He or she should be
reliable, flexible, and have the ability
to complete assignments promptly.
The majority of Saint Frances volunteers
are over eighteen years of age and able
to work without parental supervision. An
adult supervisor must accompany any
Volunteer under the age of 18. All
shelter volunteers must attend an
orientation, sign a liability release
agreement (parent/guardian signature
required if under the age of 18) and
have an interview with a St. Frances
designee before joining the volunteer
program. The purpose of the interview is
to discuss your needs, talents, and time
availability and to then find the
appropriate job to fulfill those
requirements.
We prefer volunteers “schedule” their
work sessions, however Saint Frances
Animal Center will accept a few
"unscheduled" volunteers. The shelter
manager will assign jobs to unscheduled
volunteers.
WHAT WE ASK OF OUR VOLUNTEERS
1. Volunteering is a serious commitment.
2. Attend an hour and a half
orientation.
3. Complete an interview with the
volunteer coordinator or designee.
4. Be honest concerning your needs,
wishes and availability.
5. Be punctual and reliable.
6. Be an “ambassador” for the shelter.Foster Homes: When an animal arrives at SFAC who is not quite ready for adoption, SFAC relies on the love and homes of our foster care volunteers. These volunteers open their homes to kittens needing time to grow, pregnant or nursing cats, dogs who need a little extra attention, or a companion animal recovering from an illness or injury. Many foster families assist with finding new homes for their fosterling. Those animals are included on this website's pet list. For more information contact the shelter 843-546-0780.
